The Integrated Genetics (IG) Division of LabCorp is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join their Specimen Processing and Accessioning team. The Westborough IG site processes extracted DNA from peripheral blood and prenatal samples (amniotic fluid and chorionic villi) for genetic testing. A variety of molecular genetic techniques are used in the laboratory to include Next Generation Sequencing, Real Time PCR, Sanger Sequencing and Southern Blot analysis to test for specific genetic diseases such as Cystic Fibrosis, Spinal Muscular Atrophy and Fragile X Syndrome.

The Specimen Processor will be responsible for performing clinical specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures.

The schedule for this position will be Monday, Wednesday-Saturday: 9:00AM-5:30PM.


  • Open incoming packages from branches/clients, unpack and receive specimens

  • Perform data entry and Quality Assurance for specimen/patient information with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with established protocols

  • Assign computer-generated identification number to be used for specimen tracking

  • Accurately identify and label specimens

  • Route samples by type to designated staging areas

  • Maintain complete documentation for all processes as outlined in SOPs

  • Clearly document any problem cases as outlined in SOPs

  • Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities

  • Meet department activity and production goal


  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Comfortable with handling biological specimens

  • Strong work ethic

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Previous medical, healthcare or production experience is preferred, but not required

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting desired, but not required

  • Previous experience in a CLIA and/or CAP regulated environment a plus, but not required
