The Bioinformatics Data Scientist positon requires combining an understanding of biological sciences with computational techniques in statistics and mathematics to contribute to solving unmet critical diagnostic needs. Nimble analytic skills, independent motivation, excellent communication, and a team-oriented focus are critical to thrive in this dynamic environment. We are seeking a creative and collaborative computational Biologist to evaluate, develop, and apply statistical inference and machine learning algorithms to promote cancer diagnosis from a blood draw. Expertise in machine learning algorithms and data mining is a must.
This position is located at Sequenom in San Diego, however, there is an option to work remotely, and candidates can be located anywhere in the US.
Perform machine learning, and statistical analysis methods, such as classification, time-series analysis, statistical inference, and validation methods
Apply best practice statistical/computational methods to analyze large-scale biological data, such as gene expression, copy-number, mutation, next-generation sequencing.
Develop algorithms for analysis of studies across various next generation sequencing data types and platforms for clinical applications
PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational biology, applied Computer Science, Mathematics or Statistics OR Masters of Science degree
Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience required with a PhD; 4 years of experience with a Masters Degree
Expertise in data mining, information retrieval and machine learning algorithms required
Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and analysis tools required
Excellent understanding of computer science fundamentals and algorithms
Comfortable working with command line tools in a Linux shell environment and LSF
Expertise in R, Perl or Python
Ability to breakdown and clearly define problems
Must be a detail-oriented self-starter who can organize workloads
