Labcorp Laboratory Operations Assistant -- BioChemical Genetics in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Laboratory Operations Assistant to join their BioChemical Genetics team in RTP, NC! This position will be responsible for supporting two different categories of testing performed by the BioChemical Genetics laboratory at CMBP: maternal serum screening and diagnosis of inborn errors of metabolism.
Maternal serum screening is available to all pregnant women and testing is performed to identify pregnancies that are at a higher than usual risk for certain birth defects (including open spina bifida, Down syndrome, and Trisomy 18). Tests for inborn errors of metabolism are enzyme activity tests that are typically performed on blood, urine, or CSF from children, and sometimes adults, who have symptoms for a variety of diseases. Please note, this position will not involve any hands on wet lab work. It is focused primarily on providing laboratory support and sample management.
The schedule for this position will be: Tuesday -- Saturday, 8:00am-4:30pm
Verifying and entering test results in preparation for director review
Assisting lab staff with organizing and filing quality control documentation
Monitoring lists of samples pending testing and notifying appropriate testing staff
Corresponding with other laboratory support groups to resolve client inquiries and concerns
Reviewing test orders prior to specimen processing to ensure sample type is appropriate and all necessary information is included. This includes identifying mis-orders and contacting clients to obtain information necessary to complete testing performed at CMBP
Calling clients to notify them of delayed or abnormal test results
High school diploma or equivalent (AS degree preferred)
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
Strong computer skills and working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Previous customer service experience preferred, but not required
Previous experience using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) a plus
