Laboratory Corporation of America Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee - Entry level, will train! in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The Integrated Genetics Division is seeking a Cytogenetics Technologist Trainee to join their Cytogenetics team in the Microarray Group! Assays performed in the Cytogenetics Department utilize a variety of scientific techniques, including specimen culturing, PCR, fragment analysis, and gel electrophoresis.
Participate in LabCorp's in-house training program for the field of Cytogenetics. Receive in depth training and preparation for the ASCP board examination and ASCP-CG certification. Training program is a two year commitment.
The schedule for this position is: Tuesday -- Saturday, 3pm-11:30pm.
Perform culture initiation and harvesting of cells from amniotic fluid, peripheral blood, CVS and POC specimens
PCR DNA extraction, and completion of the SNP array assay from amniotic fluid, peripheral blood, bone marrow, CVS and POC specimens
Review test requisitions to gather pertinent details for analysis as needed
Perform QA/QC duties in the lab
Perform routine preventative maintenance on lab equipment
Work with wide array of instrumentation
B.A./B.S. in Biology, Chemistry or related scientific discipline
Previous laboratory experience preferred, but not required
Previous experience pipetting highly preferred
PCR and gel electrophoresis experience a plus
Ability to work independently within a team and strong attention to detail
Strong organization skills
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
