Laboratory Corporation of America Accessioning & Histology Technician in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

LabCorp is seeking a Technician to join its team in Research Triangle Park, NC. This position performs specimen accessioning and technical support for the Histology laboratory. This is a multi-disciplinary position with 6 primary components: specimen receiving, sample sorting and processing, data entry, referral Lab send outs, ancillary histology duties, and instrument operation and maintenance.

Duties:

  • Receive shipments and cross reference manifests for accuracy.

  • Prepare laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and route specimens by type to various staging areas.

  • Perform all paperwork, technical and non-technical procedures required to process and submit specimens.

  • Assign specific computer generated identification numbers, checks for accuracy and records all items processed.

  • Prepare for laboratory send outs to referral labs keeping accurate documentation and chain of custody.

  • Resolve discrepancies as they occur and notify management.

  • Provide specimen accessioning, sample splitting/sorting and data entry.

  • Operate data entry terminals and automated data systems, follows standard sequences/coding when entering data and corrects, edits, and/or verifies data entered into automated systems.

  • Perform ancillary tasks pertaining to all histological technical processes including embedding, collating and distribution of cases to pathologists, and filing of blocks and slides.

  • Prepare and discard reagents and material per lab guidelines.

  • Operate and maintain tissue processors, embedding instruments, and automated stainers.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on all histological instruments.

  • Maintain laboratory logs.

  • Maintain work area in a clean, safe and sanitary manner.

  • Consistently meet productivity, schedule adherence, and quality standards.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

License/Certification/Education:

  • An Associate's Degree in a life science with 1-2 years of clinical lab experience OR a high school diploma with 3-5 years clinical lab experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a histology lab.
