Laboratory Corporation of America Hospital Blood Blank Technologist - $10,000 Sign-On Bonus! (3rd Shift) in Miami, Florida

This position is at the University of Miami Hospital and supports their Blood Bank.

This position includes a $10,000 Sign-On Bonus! (External candidates only)

Shift: Monday - Friday, 11:00pm - 7:30am + every other weekend (at most).

*This shift includes a 15% shift differential

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performing analysis to find blood type, RH factor, antibodies and other information, and cross match findings with patients' blood

  • Ensure that blood and related equipment are safely stored and safe for use

  • Determine the acceptability of blood according to established criteria

  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures

  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality

  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving

  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls

  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care

  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures

  • Identify and replenish supplies as necessary

  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment


  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related science

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist level

  • Florida License or willingness to obtain Florida License as a Medical Technologist is required

  • Previous experience is not required at the Technologist Trainee level

  • ASCP or AMT certification is preferred

  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment

  • Proficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus

  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills

  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen

  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

In order to ensure the safety of our patients, this position requires as part of the post-offer onboarding process, successful completion of medical surveillance testing which includes: TB testing; proof of immunity or vaccination for Hepatitis B, Varicella, and MMR; annual flu vaccination; and color blind deficiency testing (if required by position) unless an exemption is request pursuant to federal state or local law."
