Laboratory Corporation of America Lab Support Supervisor in Englewood, Colorado
This position supervises the Specimen Management team, a group of 9 "trouble-shooters" for the laboratory. As time-sensitive human samples/specimens arrive at the laboratory from doctor's offices, patient service centers and other medical facilities, they are sorted, scanned and delivered to the testing departments for result turnaround daily. Specimen management team members locate samples that are misdirected to the wrong departments, ensure specimen test codes are corrected when necessary and with a sense of urgency, ensure patient files get updated timely, and answer client questions about their specimens. Some, but not all, of the job duties include:
Act as a liaison between the contact center/lab and physician's offices regarding specimen information and corrections
Hire and provide training for new employees
Ensure employees time is recorded accurately in the payroll system
Manage employee relations/disciplinary issues and absences
Work collaboratively with laboratory supervisors, technical/operations management, sales, human resources, and contact center team members to ensure smooth communication between all departments regarding misdirected specimens and corrections
Provide back-up support for staff members who are on vacation
Other job duties as assigned
License/Certification/Education: Normally requires an Associate's Degree; Bachelors degree preferred. 3-5 years of experience in related field and previous experience supervising non-exempt employees in a fast paced medical or similar environment. Excellent computer/data entry skills, medical billing/coding knowledge, previous experience in a hospital, laboratory or medical facility is helpful, and the ability to work hours other than a typical 8 hour schedule may be necessary. Demonstrated abilitity to deal with difficult situations/customers and communicate effectively with individiduals at all levels of an organization.
