The Charlotte Branch of LabCorp is seeking a dedicated and motivated individual to join their Accessioning team! The primary purpose of the Clinical Specimen Processor is to accession and prepare patient specimens for analysis by designated departments. Specimen processing is complex and difficult because of the quantity, diversity, and time requirements of specimens received in the centralized processing area. This position must be able to process all specimens timely and correctly and to identify and resolve specimen acceptability problems.

This position will have first shift hours from 3:30PM -- 11:00PM, Monday through Friday


  • Open incoming packages from branches/clients, unpack and receive specimens.

  • Perform data entry and Quality Assurance for specimen/patient information with a high degree of accuracy and in accordance with established protocols.

  • Assign computer-generated identification number to be used for specimen tracking.

  • Accurately identify and label specimens.

  • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and Route samples by type to designated staging areas.

  • Maintain complete documentation for all processes as outlined in SOPs.

  • Clearly document any problem cases as outlined in SOPs.

  • Pack and ship specimens to proper testing facilities.

  • Meets department activity and production goals.



  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Strong work ethic

  • Experience working in a team environment

  • Comfortability with handling biological specimens

  • Previous medical or production experience is a plus

  • Excellent attention to detail with an understanding of patient impact

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting desired, but not required

  • Previous experience in a CLIA and/or CAP regulated environment desired, but not required

  • Requires data entry skills at 6,000+ kph
