Labcorp Lab Manager (1st shift) in Burlington, North Carolina

Labcorp is seeking an experienced dynamic Lab Manager to join our Special Chemistry department. Special Chemistry is a part of the Center for Esoteric Testing division in Burlington, NC and performs over 2.9 million tests each year.

This position has critical technical, operational, and financial responsibilities involving the performance management of more than 60 rare and esoteric tests, many of which are only performed out of this location for the entire company. This position oversees operations on all 3 shifts, 7 days a week with 3 different technical sub-sections composed of 65 technical employees and a customer service group. Our subsections include Electrophoresis, Esoteric/Rare Testing (ERT), and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR).

Although the schedule is Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, schedule flexibility will be required to meet the needs of other shifts.


  • Provides strategic oversight and leadership direction of the laboratory with strong emphasis on accurate and timely delivery of patient results

  • Oversees several business functions or divisions;

  • Provides leadership to department supervisor(s) and staff;

  • Manage first-line supervisor(s) and/or professional staff.

  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency standards, including CAP, CLIA, NYSDOH, and OSHA while working closely with the Medical Director.

  • Perform competency assessments, providing continuing education, and maintaining positive morale of laboratory staff

  • Attend staff and management meetings and overseeing daily lab operations

  • Establish and maintain laboratory performance criteria

  • Other duties as assigned by management


  • Must have a BA/BS degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or other related science as required by CLIA.

  • Bachelor Degrees in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science strongly preferred

  • 10+ years of clinical laboratory experience preferably in a management role.

  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access).

  • Must be able to work in a team oriented environment.

  • Excellent in time management and organization.
