Laboratory Corporation of America Communications Manager - Internal Comms in Burlington, North Carolina

The Internal Communications Manager will support the LabCorp Diagnostics and functional teams with all ongoing communications to internal stakeholders. S/he will work with the Director, Internal Communications to execute a world-class internal communications strategy which is fully integrated with the diagnostics business strategy. As Communications Manager you will work closely with the diagnostics business and functional teams in collaboration with the Director of Internal Communications, the Director of Employee Engagement and the Director of Executive Communications, and peers across the business, to execute initiatives, coordinate communications, ensure consistency of messaging across the organization and ensure employee engagement at all levels within LabCorp. This role can be based at our HQ in Burlington, NC, or in our Raleigh, NC.


  • Develop internal communications to support various company-wide initiatives and strategic priorities. Work with diagnostics business unit leaders and special project teams on business unit- or audience-specific communications plans and messages for initiatives, change efforts, and enterprise goals.

  • As a communications business partner, use a diverse set of communication channels and forums, including the intranet, internal social strategy, email, and meetings/events (Town Halls, Leadership Communications), to drive employee engagement across the organization.

  • Earn trust, provide counsel, and effectively communicate with a range of internal stakeholders (site leaders, division heads). Actively participate in internal meetings, including challenging the thinking of leaders where appropriate.

  • Think and communicate clearly -- formulate a clear point of view on complicated issues and create a concise and well-written narrative to express it.

  • Develop and drive change management and communications policies and processes with an employee centric view as needed.

  • Lead the coordination of standardized communications across the company, while eliminating non-strategic communications and driving use of the communications cascade.

  • Execute complex communications plans, projects, programs and manage agency/ contractor relationships on specific projects.

  • Measure effectiveness of internal communications strategy using standard industry benchmarks.



The successful candidate will have 5-8+ year(s) of internal communications experience in a large organization or agency. Additional qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism or English preferred.

  • Superior written communication and editing skills.

  • Exceptional project management skills in managing multiple projects/deadlines; ability to set priorities and be flexible with changing environments.

  • Strong interpersonal skills; flexible, diplomatic, collaborative, and responsive.

  • An ability to write and create communications content to ensure clarity and tell a story that inspires employees and encourages them to adopt winning behaviors.

  • Ability to turn complex, sophisticated business messages into communications that are appropriate for different audiences and business lines (e.g. senior leaders, managers, all employees).

  • Ability to forge long term trusted relationships quickly and effectively; Track-record of credibility with senior leaders.

  • Experience working across multiple innovative channels and platforms, including social media, video and digital.

  • Passion for/interest in healthcare, business culture and talent.

  • Roll up sleeves and get work done, even when at times it's outside the scope of the job.

  • Accustomed to the 24/7 "always on" nature of a global business with operations and staff around the globe.
